Patisson

Patty pan, also known as Patisson or scallop squash. It belongs to the family Cucurbitaceae, which also includes courgettes, pumpkins, and cucumbers. This distinctive variety of the summer squash has a unique, flat, disc-shaped appearance with wavy edges. A joy to eat and 'food plate'.

What's the Patty pan?

The flavour?
Mild and slightly sweet, you can compare it to courgette or other soft squash.

The texture?
Firm and tender. Ready to eat.

How to prepare it.
Because of its mild flavour, it absorbs other flavours easily. You can bake, grill, roast, stuff or add the Patty Pan into your soup. As our chef succinctly put it: treat it like a courgette.

Healthy?
Definitely! Low-cal and full of good nutrients and vitamins like vitamins C and B, potassium and magnesium. It contains a lot of water, like a cucumber.

How to store.
You can store fresh patisson in the fridge for a few days to a week.
For longer shelf life, it can be frozen, but blanch them first.
