We are proud to announce that we are up and running with our local indoor mushroom growing. Mitrofresh has developed innovative containers were mushrooms are grown within a controlled environment. In collaboration with Mobi Mushroom and farm shop Hans Ravensbergen we started Shiitake plug & play production in Rhenen on November 9th 2023.
Advantages of the plug & play growth container are that it is easy, quick and continuous. No building permit is needed, no foundation and no large installations. No bureaucracy.
This innovation originates from our core value to cultivate with impact at origin: Sustainable, efficient and local. The entire Dutch agricultural sector faces many challenges, including climate change, land shortage, protein transition and environmental pressures. Growing mushrooms in containers provides an answer to these challenges and delivers a lot of benefits:
Sustainability: Growing mushrooms in containers can significantly reduce water consumption, and there is little to no emission of harmful substances.
Efficiency: The controlled environment of the container ensures optimal growing conditions, maximising production capacity.
Quality: Consumers can enjoy high-quality, flavourful mushrooms with consistent quality throughout the year.
Local: By growing the mushrooms locally, we reduce the need for long-distance transport, which reduces the ecological footprint. The project also creates an additional revenue model for local farmers, thus having a positive impact on the local economy.
Healthy: Mushrooms are rich in nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and they are naturally low in calories and fat, offering immune support.
Protein transition: Mushrooms offer an excellent meat alternative for vegetarians and vegans, allowing them to enjoy a protein-rich food.
The first container of high-quality flavoured mushrooms is in operation from 9 November 2023. To demonstrate this new innovation and tell more about its potential for the agricultural sector, Mobi Mushroom is organising an event on Friday 17 November 2023 at the Binnenveld farm in Rhenen where the first container is operational.
